Why Parents Choose Our IGCSE Computer Science Tutor

Most tutoring platforms accept anyone with a degree. We don’t.

Every IGCSE Computer Science tutor in our network is a currently employed teacher at an accredited international school, actively teaching Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science to real students every day. They hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and a recognized teaching qualification, such as a B.Ed.

This is not a side business for them. This is their profession.

Unlike open marketplaces, we have our own teacher-selection and verification process. Every tutor is referred to us by existing teachers in our network – because great teachers know other great teachers.

Here is how we select every IGCSE Computer Science tutor.

    Our 4-Step Tutor Verification Process

    01
    CV & Employment Verification

We personally review every CV and cross-verify that the teacher is actively teaching IGCSE Computer Science at their respective international school.

    02
    Live Video Interview

We conduct a Zoom or Google Meet interview to assess teaching style, communication skills, and the ability to explain complex Computer Science concepts clearly.

    03
    Demo Class Assessment

Only after the interview is cleared do we assign demo classes with real students. We observe, evaluate, and only retain teachers who consistently meet our standards.

    04
    Qualification Verification

Every teacher in our network is currently employed teaching IGCSE Computer Science at an international school and holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, plus a recognized teaching qualification such as a B.Ed.

These are our non-negotiable standards. No exceptions.

What the IGCSE Computer Science Exam Actually Requires

Your child’s tutor needs to know exactly what the exam demands. Here is what every IGCSE Computer Science student faces.

    💻
    Cambridge

    Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science (0478 / 0984)

Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science is assessed through two written papers, each contributing 50% of the final grade. The 0984 syllabus (9–1 grading) is otherwise the same as 0478.

    paper_1.txt
    Paper 1 Computer Systems

1 hour 45 minutes, 75 marks. This paper covers Topics 1–6: data representation, data transmission, hardware, software, the internet and its uses, and automated and emerging technologies. Question types include short-answer, structured/explain, calculations, and tables.

    paper_2.txt
Paper 2 Algorithms, Programming and Logic

1 hour 45 minutes, 75 marks. This paper covers Topics 7–10: algorithm design and problem-solving, programming, databases, and Boolean logic. Question types include trace tables and diagrams, pseudocode writing, a 15-mark scenario-based programming question, SQL and database tasks, and logic circuits.

Important update for 2026–2028: In Paper 2, candidates must write solutions in pseudocode. Solutions written in programming code will not be awarded marks. The exception is the 15-mark scenario question, where candidates may write solutions in pseudocode or in one of the following programming languages: Python, Visual Basic, or Java. Solutions written in other programming languages will not be awarded marks.

Cambridge topic areas (ten topics across two papers):

    Paper 1 – Computer Systems:

    • > Topic 1: Data Representation – binary systems, hexadecimal, character encoding, data storage for images and sound, and file size calculation.
    • > Topic 2: Data Transmission – serial and parallel transmission, transmission modes, error-checking methods, and encryption.
    • > Topic 3: Hardware – input, output, and storage devices, the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and its components, embedded systems and sensors.
    • > Topic 4: Software – types of software (system, utility, application), operating systems and user interfaces.
    • > Topic 5: The Internet and Its Uses – internet structure, cloud computing, network security, the World Wide Web and internet protocols.
    • > Topic 6: Automated and Emerging Technologies – robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation.

Paper 2 – Algorithms, Programming and Logic:

    • > Topic 7: Algorithm Design and Problem-Solving – pseudocode, flowcharts, structure diagrams, and problem-solving strategies.
    • > Topic 8: Programming – programming concepts (variables, data types, control structures), procedures and functions, debugging and testing.
    • > Topic 9: Databases – tables, records, fields and primary keys; queries, SQL, and database design.
    • > Topic 10: Boolean Logic – AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR gates; logic circuits and truth tables.

    Pearson Edexcel

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Computer Science (4CP0)

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Computer Science (4CP0) is assessed through two papers: Principles of Computer Science and Application of Computational Thinking.

    paper_1.txt
Paper 1 Principles of Computer Science

2 hours, 80 marks, 50% of the qualification. The paper consists of multiple-choice, short open-response, open-response and extended open-response answer questions. All questions are mandatory.

    paper_2.txt
Paper 2 Application of Computational Thinking

3 hours, 80 marks, 50% of the qualification. This is a practical examination. You may choose one of three programming languages: Python, C#, or Java. The paper consists of multiple-choice, short open-response, open-response, extended open-response answers, and task-based questions. Learners complete the task-based questions on a computer system under supervision. Learners answer all other questions requiring a written response on paper. A pseudocode reference document is available for learners to reference during the assessment.

    Edexcel topic areas (six themes):

    • > Topic 1: Problem Solving – decomposition and abstraction, reading and writing pseudocode and flowcharts, the constructs (sequence, selection, iteration).
    • > Topic 2: Programming – data types, arrays, subprograms, validation and testing.
    • > Topic 3: Data – binary, hexadecimal and denary conversions, binary arithmetic, character/image/sound representation, units and compression.
    • > Topic 4: Computers – hardware (CPU, memory (RAM, ROM), storage, input/output), logic gates and truth tables, software, machines and computational modeling.
    • > Topic 5: Communication and the internet – network types (LAN, WAN, PAN), protocols, topologies, network security (encryption, firewall), the internet and the World Wide Web.
    • > Topic 6: The bigger picture – impacts of digital technology: environmental (energy), legal (IP, cybercrime), ethical and societal.

    Start with Just 5 Hours

We don’t push large packages on day one. Start with 5 hours to test compatibility – teaching style, communication, and pacing.

Why Our IGCSE Computer Science Tutor Offers a 5-Hour Starter Package

This is one of the most important things to know about us.

Most tutoring companies ask you to commit to 10, 20, or even 30 hours upfront. We don’t believe in that.

We offer just 5 hours to begin with. Why?

Because we want you to see the tutor’s teaching style, communication, and pacing before making any larger commitment. No pressure. No lock-in.

Students Come to Us for Different Reasons

    🥇

    Refining Exam Technique

Some students already achieve strong grades but want to refine their exam technique and work toward the highest available grade.

    🧩

    Feeling Lost in Class

Some students feel completely lost in their school classroom. The teacher moves too fast. Our tutors break down complex concepts into simple, step-by-step explanations.
